Biolab records unprecedented podcast episode on mental health at Brain Congress 2025, in Fortaleza (CE)

Published in June 23, 2025

Biolab Farmacêutica reaffirms its commitment to promoting initiatives that prioritize mental health in a humane way through its participation in Brain Congress 2025, one of the most important gatherings focused on innovation and scientific debate in the fields of mental health and neuroscience. Brain Congress connects neuroscience to clinical practice through a multidisciplinary approach. Featuring renowned experts, the event empowers professionals to provide more effective diagnoses and treatments in mental and neurological health. The event will take place from June 18 to 21 at the Ceará Event Center in Fortaleza (CE).

Among the initiatives organized by the company for the event is the scientific symposium taking place on June 18, featuring psychiatrists Dr. Carmita Abdo, professor at the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (FMUSP), and researcher Márcia Kauer, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The central theme of the symposium will be “The role of the sigma-1 receptor and the use of fluvoxamine in the treatment of depression,” highlighting innovative therapeutic approaches in combating one of the conditions that most impact the quality of life of the global population. According to the Ministry of Health, the lifetime prevalence of depression in Brazil is 15.51%. Last year, the Ministry of Social Security reported nearly half a million sick leaves due to anxiety and depression—the highest number in 10 years.

In addition to contributing to the scientific debate, Biolab will also present a first-of-its-kind event during the conference: the live recording of a special episode of the Biolab Conectados podcast, produced in partnership with its animal health business unit, Avert. The initiative discusses topics related to mental health and the positive impact of animals on human well-being, reinforcing the importance of complementary and integrative approaches to mental health care.

“Attending Brain Congress 2025 is an opportunity to share knowledge and foster new perspectives on the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Biolab is an innovative company with a mission to bring health and quality of life to the population, and mental health is undoubtedly the first step toward overall well-being,” says Tati Marques, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Biolab.
