Understand the importance of nasal hydration
Dust, low humidity, pet dander… There are several factors that can irritate the inner walls of the nose. Even the slightest exposure to some of these can cause inflammation, characterized by swelling of the mucous membranes and excessive mucus production.
The nose is the main entry point for the air we breathe and is also responsible for protecting the respiratory tract. This means that if it malfunctions, the chances of infection by viruses or bacteria increase, causing problems such as sinusitis, ear infections, tonsillitis, and even pneumonia.
However, one of the most common problems is a stuffy nose, which can be triggered by many factors, such as allergic rhinitis, pollution, perfumes, changes in temperature, and, in some cases, even a deviated septum. That’s why it’s important to take certain precautions.
Ideally, you should keep your nasal passages well-moisturized; in addition to clearing congestion and cleaning the nasal mucosa, this procedure—when performed daily—helps prevent respiratory tract illnesses. This is because cleaning the nostrils helps remove impurities and other potential agents that may be adhering to the nasal mucosa.
To clean properly and ensure adequate hydration, it is recommended to use a nasal solution based on Sodium Hyaluronate, an active ingredient that keeps the mucous membrane hydrated and ensures that your nose can perform its function of filtering the air you breathe. It is recommended to repeat this process an average of three times per nostril, though this may vary depending on your nasal hygiene routine and the climate in the region where you live. When necessary, blow your nose to remove the secretions that have been loosened by the solution. And don’t forget to breathe through your mouth during the cleansing process!
In addition, combining nasal moisturizing with other habits can make your routine more enjoyable. Check out some tips we've put together:
. Keep rooms clean and well-ventilated
. Choose a humidifier to maintain a comfortable indoor climate
. Drink plenty of fluids
. Moisturize your nose regularly with solutions containing sodium chloride 9.0 mg
Daily care of your nostrils can prevent more serious problems down the road. It's the small changes that make a difference in the long run!
